Sheraton Display Cabinet
An elegant
satinwood display cabinet with a drop-front secretaire inlaid
with leather. The cabinet has lockable doors and two glass shelves,
and can be supplied with an interior light. Lined with 1-1/2m
of silk.
Based upon the exquisite and classic design of the great 18th
Century master craftsman – Thomas Sheraton. The cabinet
is in rich satinwood with a drop-front secretaire inlaid with
hand-tooled leather. It is topped with a depressed segmental pediment
-à la Sir John Soane circa 1785. The unusual shape features
a scalloped decoration achieved by the traditional method of scorching
satinwood veneers in silver sand.
Tulipwood is used extensively for crossbanding, corner patrae
and top decoration. The stringing on the legs matches the inlay
on the drawer front edge and cabinet sides. Decorative stringing
has also been applied to the frame-work of the pigeon-hole unit.
The cabinet doors feature Gothic-arched glazing bars and the interior
of the cabinet is veneered in satinwood and the back lined with
silk. The cabinet comes complete with brass handles in a floret
design in keeping with the period. |
